Brewster Welcomes Sydney Ford as New Crew Coach

Brewster Academy is excited to announce Sydney Ford as the new head coach of the crew program. Coach Ford brings a wealth of rowing and coaching experience, along with an impressive competitive background at both the collegiate and elite levels.

A native of New Hampshire, Ford began her rowing career at Bedford Crew in Bedford, NH. Her talent and dedication earned her a spot at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she competed in Division I rowing and served as team captain. During her time at Marist, she helped lead her team to victory at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta, secured multiple Head of the Fish titles, and captured two consecutive MAAC conference championships. Those championships earned the program back-to-back automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, cementing its place among the nation's top collegiate teams.

Beyond collegiate competition, Ford trained and raced at the elite level with Riverside Boat Club in Boston and ARION (Advanced Rowing Initiative of the Northeast) in Saratoga Springs, NY. She currently continues to train and compete with Independence Rowing Club in Nashua, NH.

Her coaching career began where her own rowing journey started—at Bedford Crew—where she helped guide the team to three consecutive NEIRA Championship appearances. Under her leadership, the girls' First Eight achieved a program-best 5th-place finish in 2025.

Coach Ford's extensive rowing background and proven coaching ability position her perfectly to lead Brewster Crew into its next chapter. She is committed to fostering an environment where novice rowers can develop a love for the sport and varsity athletes can push toward collegiate rowing opportunities.

"We're thrilled to welcome Coach Ford to Brewster," said Connor Wells. "Her leadership, competitive experience, and dedication to athlete development will make an immediate and lasting impact on our program."

With the spring season on the horizon, Brewster rowers can look forward to training under a coach who has been successful at every level of the sport—and who is eager to help them reach their full potential on the water.
