Kadary Richmond, Brewster Class of 2020, has signed a two-way contract with the NBA's Washington Wizards, signaling not only the start of his professional basketball career but also a proud moment for the Brewster community. Longtime head coach and Brewster basketball program director Jason Smith congratulated the former Bobcat on social media June 27. Richmond is a dynamic guard, known for his versatility, court vision, and relentless work ethic. A two-way contract means Richmond will split time between the Wizards and their G League affiliate. "I just want to be a winner," he said in a recent CBS Sports HQ interview. "I think I can bring a lot to an NBA team—defensively, I can guard multiple positions, and I've improved a lot as a playmaker."
At Brewster, Richmond played an integral role on the Bobcat Prep Basketball team. Arriving from Brooklyn, New York, Kadary joined Brewster in 2019 and quickly made an impression with his basketball IQ, composure under pressure, and defensive tenacity. He honed his skills alongside a roster stacked with Division I talent, pushing him to grow both as an athlete and as a leader.
During his time at Brewster, Richmond helped lead the Bobcats to a 34-3 record. The 2019-20 team won the program's seventh National Prep Championship title. The Bobcat were co-champions, as the finals were canceled that season due to COVID. The team also finished #1 in the National Coaches Poll that year.Â
Richmond was also a 1st Team All NEPSAC Class AAA Selection during his year at Brewster and drew national attention for his smooth handles, crafty finishes at the rim, and lockdown perimeter defense. But those who knew him at Brewster also admired his humility, dedication to his teammates, and commitment to improving every day. He was and is known for acknowledging the incredible support of his close-knit family.Â

Following Brewster, Richmond played at Syracuse University, Seton Hall, and most recently St. John's University. His Seton Hall head coach, Shaheen Holloway, recalls Richmond as unique: "He can get to the basket. He can get downhill. He's got a good midrange game. He plays with pace. He's got great vision. He's just a very good all-around basketball player." Through his college career, Richmond emerged as one of the Big East Conference's most notable players, averaging double figures in scoring while also contributing in rebounds, assists, and steals.Â
Richmond now joins a growing list of Brewster alumni to reach the NBA, including Donovan Mitchell '15, TJ Warren '12, Devonte' Graham '14, and Will Barton '10…further cementing the Academy's reputation as a launchpad for elite basketball talent. As Richmond prepares to join his new team and begin the new chapter he has long dreamed of and prepared for, the Brewster community is cheering him on—proud not only of his accomplishments, but of the character and work ethic that have defined him from the start.
