Growing up in New York and Connecticut, Donovan Mitchell transferred to Brewster Academy in 2013 as a junior in high school, initially drawn to Brewster by its nationally prominent basketball program. Outside of basketball and academics, Mitchell jumped into community life at Brewster wholeheartedly, being elected by his classmates as Senior Prefect, and giving admissions tours on campus to visiting families. On the basketball court at Brewster, Mitchell was a key member of the Bobcats’ back-to-back NEPSAC Class AAA and National Prep Championship teams in 2014 and 2015. In his senior season in 2015 he was elected to the NEPSAC Class AAA First Team and was named the NEPSAC Class AAA Tournament MVP. Mitchell signed with the University of Louisville, where he spent two seasons as a stand-out guard. In 2017, at the conclusion of his sophomore season at Louisville, Mitchell was named to the ACC First Team and ACC All Defense First Team.
After his sophomore campaign, Mitchell declared for the 2017 NBA draft and was selected 13th overall. His professional career to date in the NBA has been exceptional.  In five seasons with the Utah Jazz and three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Mitchell has averaged more than 20 points per game every season, with an impressive career field goal percentage of 45%. Career highlights include winning the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest as a rookie, being named to the 2018 All Rookie First Team, and being a six-time NBA All Star—including All-NBA First Team and an All Star game starter in 2025. In 2023 Mitchell also scored an NBA season-high, career-high, and Cavaliers-record 71 points, along with 8 rebounds and 11 assists, in the team’s regular season OT victory. Mitchell became only the seventh player in NBA history to score 70 or more points in a game, and the first to do so with at least 10 assists. Presently, Donovan Mitchell is widely regarded as one of the top shooting guards in the entire NBA.
