June 4, 2005 – Rebekah Seaman ’97 has the distinction of being the first woman inducted into Brewster’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Kate Turner, Brewster’s associate director of athletics, spoke about how Seaman – new to Brewster but a longtime ice hockey goalie for the local Back Bay Indians – found herself at a school without a hockey team. As a result of her persistence, the school agreed to allow Seaman to join the boys’ junior varsity ice hockey team. Seaman spent the next four years minding the net for the Bobcats. During this time, she was twice selected as team captain and twice received the MVP Award and once received the Coach’s Award.

While at Brewster, she also played for the New Hampshire Select Girls’ Elite Team. Her athletic interests and accomplishments were not limited to the ice rink, however. Seaman was the only 12-season athlete in her graduating class, also playing field hockey and lacrosse. In field hockey, she received the MVP award twice and the Coaches’ Award twice. And she was selected captain of the field hockey team her senior year. As a varsity lacrosse player, Seaman was awarded the Coaches’ Award and was selected MVP and played in the New England All-Star Game. She was recruited by Division I Boston College Women’s Ice Hockey Team where she played for two years.

While Seaman was away playing collegiate hockey, Brewster formed its first girls’ ice hockey team in 1998. Following college, Seaman returned to the rink and the playing fields as a coach. She has coached ice hockey for the New England College Development League Girls’ All Stars in Boston, for Brewster Academy, and for the Wolfeboro Junior She-Wolves ice hockey team. She has coached varsity lacrosse and varsity field hockey for the Foxcroft School in Virginia and varsity field hockey for Worcester Academy in Massachusetts. Seaman now plays goalie on the Wolfeboro She-Wolves Women’s Ice Hockey team and coaches girls’ ice hockey and field hockey at Brewster and lacrosse for the local Abenaki Youth Lacrosse organization. Seaman’s plaque reads: “On this day we hereby recognize and pay tribute to Rebekah Seaman for her inspiration to girls in sports, for her accomplishments while a 12-season Brewster athlete and a Division 1 NCAA athlete, and for her continued dedication as a coach and mentor to girls’ sports at Brewster and in the surrounding community.”
